THE SHAME

It seems that a (so called) journalist Tony Parsons wrote an article on the interview of the Portuguese ambassador in London, António Santana Carlos. The ambassador was interviewed by the Times newspaper and the focus was obviously Maddie and the crashing relations amongst the 2 countries. To me it seemed an attempt to ease things up, but probably better would have been NOT to talk about it!

I've been following this case for a while, trying to understand what happened that night. Well no matter how many articles I read, no matter what side I feel is right, I will most likely never now what happened. As no one else will. It is quite sad and makes my stomach turn to see what a big circus it all has become. And also in life, after 30 fully lived years, I realized that common sense is an underrated thing, and usually the truth is the most obvious. It is very clear something is DEEPLY wrong with this whole picture. What always bothered me the most was the lying. Why do they all lie about the crucial hours? Why do the people on THAT TABLE have contradictory testimonials? If a key to this puzzle is ever found, it is surely there. In those hours.
Maddie aside the whole thing is turning into a political thing. Why did Gordon Brown gave them his PR? Why is he defending them? Doesn’t he know they are suspects??? Is it wise for a prime minister to play with fire like this? Why does the British police do not give to us the McCann’s phone registry? Something is VERY WRONG with this. Can feel it in my bones.

And I am sorry for her, because she was beautiful, because she was 4, because she deserved better. Better than being buried, kidnapped, whatever. She deserved stupid cartoons and chocolate milk. NOT THIS.

Anyway back to the main subject: the text that this lovely person called Tony Parsons and that goes by the lovely title of: "OH, UP YOURS, SENOR". First remark, it is not senor it is senhor you incompetent twat!
Then the (so called) journalist uses expressions like "The sight of locals jeering at Kate McCann as she went in for questioning made me feel as though these leering bumpkins were not from another country, but another planet. ". Damn. That’s a strong one. I even had to go to dictionary to check what a leering bumpkin is. It is a yahoo staring at something. Nice.
More: "And I would respectfully suggest that in future, if you can't say something constructive about the disappearance of little Madeleine, then you just keep your stupid, sardine-munching mouth shut.” Good one! Ten points! Creative! No one would ever think of sardines to insult a whole nation! You are one creative bastard Tony (although Tony is a name just a tad bumpkin I reckon)!
You know what you f****** asshole? Up yours. Or as we say in Portugal in a very bumpkin way: vai pó c****** filho da P***.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING CULTURAL...

Encompassing the Globe Portugal and the World in the 16th and the 17th Centuries Friday 26.10.2007 > Sunday 03.02.2008 Centre for Fine Arts-Bozar

"By bringing together more than 180 extraordinary masterpieces, this exhibition has the purpose to explore the unity and diversity of the cultures that contributed to Portugal's trading empire. From Africa to Brazil passing trough China, Japan and the Indian Ocean, it provides a wide-ranging and unforgettable image of the new world's great age of discovery. If the centrepiece of this event will focus more on Portugal itself, on the tracks of the Portuguese conquests between old maps, navigational instruments and manuscripts, the main interest of this exhibition remains in its indubitable diversity"

Although I do believe that Portugal focuses too much on it's past, one has to admit it is a hefty past. Agreeing or not with the colonization bit, that in this day and age would most likely prompt George Bush to invade us, not to mention how un-PC it is taking another country as your own just because some king fancies spices, the historical legacy that this small garden, planted by the sea (aka Portugal) left, is huge. For appetizer can also point out that this exhibit has the hand of the Smithsonian.
I will most definitely go, also because as every Portuguese and emigrant, I suffer from an identity crisis which can only be mended by searching the historical and cultural roots of this small (but huge) nation.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT... OR WELL DONE AL!

I’m all for it. Some people are "disappointed" with Al Gore’s winning of the Nobel Prize for peace. I’m not. I think the man is a fighter and an example to all of us. He lost the elections in the worst possible way (aka he didn’t loose them but didn’t get the job); instead of going home and moan about it he decided to be useful.

Alarmist? Yes. Populist? Yes. Doing something unlike most of us??? Definitely yes. He embraced a cause, and might be criticized for not the most scientific accuracy, the truth is that he had an important part in the awakening of the common man (myself included, although I actually am a woman, or 1/2 of one).

I started recycling and bought ecological light bulbs after seeing his movie. A drop in the ocean some will say. Oh well, the ocean is made of many drops. And the fact that his actions raise some discussion means he must be doing something right.

I just hope he doesn’t run for President of USA. Al, if you read this just don’t do it. Leave it for the Hillary’s and Obama’s and Schwarzenegger’s of this world. You have a far more important task to do: save the planet!

To anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, go and see!!! Pretty please…

I LUV PAREE

It was a gorgeous Saturday morning scenery in old Brussels, oddly as it may seam. Our hearts were filled with yearning, yearning for what was ahead of us, yearning for the filled day that laid ahead of us. Direction: 300km south, destination: the most beautiful and vibrant city in the world.
It was a sunny and quite warm Pareee that welcomed me, Ana C, Xana, André and the annoying Bruno.

We had lunch and a then later a stroll, gazing in awe at the sheer reality that this beautiful wonder of mankind is only 300k away from Brussels; I could not take my mind off how the people beautifully mixed their clothes, and also the fact that they were not limited to wearing grey, beige and brown. On another hand, neither could my friends, because I reminded them every 34,5268 minutes.

In the very mild afternoon we went to the beautiful Notre Dame, were we stood in awe at such beautiful scenery, and at the commercial vision of this church, by putting candles at a modest 2 and 5 Euro price.

Then some catching of the last rays of sun, at the sound of Garota de Ipanema in a jazz version, just gazing the river, thinking that happiness is all in the simple things, like strolling through beautiful Paris and having money to shop there one day.

In the evening we were fortunate to see the Rugby World Cup quarter final between France and New Zealand in the beautiful Hotel de Ville, were we gazed in awe at the Frenchmen going berserk; and still in aw I managed to,during the game, get insulted, be strangulated with my own scarf with the help of a blind Frenchmen, fall on top of somewhere between 5 to 15 people and get kicked a couple of times. There were a lot of people there, all staring in awe at the giant screen.

At the end of the evening we stood in awe to how it was possible to be 2 hours and a half in a traffic jam to leave Paris at midnight. Got home about 4 something in the morning and then I stood gazing in awe at my bed thinking it had never looked so welcoming…

HOLLYWOOD PARTY!-SATURDAY 29TH SEPT

Saturday we celebrated the birthday of two friends Rosa and Sofia. Well I suppose the photos show well how good it was. Hollywood themed, one had to go dressed as a movie or TV character. I went as Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and The City. What a shocker eh? Completely unexpected.

Anyways here goes my top costume list:
1st place-Indiana Jones
2nd place-Clark Kent(s), Steve and Manel
3rd place-Lara Croft AKA Nocas estrela do mar. She had a kalashnikov.

I was shall we say a wee bit drunk. A tad. And happy :). Must remember to get drunk more often.

MISS HOME TODAY...
